Butterflies

GS Daisy through Junior
Girl Scout Daisy through Junior Learn about the wonder of butterflies. Look at actual butterflies under glass to learn about its life cycle, body parts and interesting adaptations that help this defenseless creature survive.
WHEN: September 3, 2016, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

COST: $14 per girl, includes the Butterflies patch.

Hiker

GS Brownie
Learn what it takes to have a successful and safe hike. Scouts will learn how to navigate trails, choose the correct hiking gear and explore what types of foods are good for hiking trips.
WHEN: September 17, 2016, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
WHERE: Iron Hill Science Center & Museum, 1115 Robert Melson Lane, Newark, DE 19702
COST: $12 per girl, includes snack and Hiker badge.

NOTE: Each troop to register gets free admission for two leaders/chaperones. Additional non-participants are $2 each. Min 10/Max 15.

 

Miraculous Monarchs

GS Daisy through Ambassador
Become a “Citizen Scientist” with Delaware Nature Society! Contribute to the Monarch Watch program as you capture, tag, and release Monarch butterflies in Ashland Nature Center’s meadows. Visit Ashland’s Butterfly House to witness other late-season butterflies in every life-stage and learn their diverse strategies for coping with winter.
WHEN: September 24, 2016, 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
WHERE: Ashland Nature Center, 3511 Barley Mill Rd., Hockessin, DE 19707
COST: $12, includes fun patch.

Insect Adventurer

GS Brownie
Magnifying glass, net and water trays are tools to explore our field, forest and stream habitats for butterflies, dragonflies, ladybugs and more! Visit with Delaware Nature Society and learn stewardship as we collect, observe & identify the parts of an insect, investigate their amazing special features, and release them unharmed. Discover the connection between insect pollinators and the food we eat.
WHEN: October 8, 2016, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
WHERE: Abbott’s Mill Nature Center, 15411 Abbott’s Pond Road, Milford, DE 19963
COST: $12 per girl, includes Brownie Bugs badge

Juliette Low Tea

GS Daisy through Ambassador
Participants will learn about the founder of GSUSA, Juliette Low and the history of Girl Scouting in the USA while learning manners and enjoying Afternoon Tea!
WHEN: October 15, 2016, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

              October 29, 2016, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
WHERE: Claymont Stone School, 3611 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703
COST: $15 per scout, $13 per adult, includes patch for Girl Scout.

Letterboxing & Geocaching

GS Brownie and Junior
Visit the DuPont Environmental Education Center (DEEC) on the Wilmington Riverfront to carve out your own personal stamp and explore the exciting world of letterboxing with Delaware Nature Society. Letterboxing is a unique combination of a treasure hunt, navigation, artistic expression and outdoor exploration. Then try your navigation skills to find a series of letterboxes hidden at DEEC. Experience a more technical treasure hunt with geocaching. Practice using a GPS and search the DEEC Garden for hidden treats.
WHEN: October 15, 2016, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

              April 22, 2017, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

COST: $12, includes Brownie Letterboxing badge for Brownies and Junior Geocaching badge for Juniors
