Certifrenzy Certification School is a unique opportunity to sign up for nationally recognized certifications in many areas.
These courses are open to the public as well as to Girl Scout Ambassadors and Girl Scout Adults. If you register to attend a session which spans two or more consecutive days, housing and meals will be provided in that time. American Red Cross: Waterfront Lifeguard Training
WHEN: June 12, 8 am – June 13, 2010, 8 pm AND
June 18, 1 pm – June 19th, 2010, 8 pm
WHERE: Camp Grove Point, Earleville, MD
COST: $175. Includes book, Lifeguard/First Aide and CPR Cards, housing and meals.
This course is designed to teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning and injuries. Successful completion of this 37-hour course will result in certification as a Waterfront Lifeguard (also good for pools) and certification in First Aide and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
Prerequisites: Minimum age of 15. Plus 550 yard continuous swim (200 yard front crawl, 100 yard breaststroke, additional 250 yards of either). Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object, resurface, swim to the starting point and exit the water without ladder/steps within 1 min 40 secs. Swim 5 yards, submerge, retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4-7 feet of water, resurface swim 5 yards to side of pool.

American Red Cross: Waterfront Lifeguard Instructor Training

COST: $200. Includes book, Lifeguard/First Aide and CPR Cards, Housing, and Meals.
This course trains instructor candidates to teach basic level Lifeguarding, Waterfront Lifeguarding, and Shallow Water Attendant (all including first aid), Lifeguard Management, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Blood borne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission and Basic Water Rescue courses. Instructor candidates also will become familiar with GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow and the Water Safety presentations.
Prerequisites: Minimum age of 17. Successfully complete the pre course session. This includes passing the pre course written exam with a score of 80 percent or higher for each of the three sections and demonstrating competency in the pre course skills and scenarios evaluation (Waterfront Lifeguard Course Skills and Knowledge).
Length - 26 hours (including pre course session).
American Red Cross: CPR for the Professional Rescuer

This course is designed to teach professional rescuers the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies for Infants, Children and Adults. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim of cardiac arrest. This course is approximately 8 hours in length. This course does NOT include First Aid Certification.
National Archery Association: Level 1 Archery Instructor
WHEN: June 6, 2010, 9 am – 3 pm
WHERE: Camp Grove Point, Earleville, MD
COST: $45. Includes book and certification card.
You can become certified to teach basic archery programs in as little as eight hours. You’ll learn how to set up and operate a safe short-term archery program, how to teach new archers, how to maintain your equipment, and how to create fun games for your new archers. No previous archery experience required. Successful completion of this eight-hour course will result in certification as a National Archery Association Level One Instructor.
American Canoe Association Canoe and Kayak
WHEN: September 20, 2009 and May 2, 2010 8:30 am – 5:30 pm
WHERE: Camp Todd, Lake Williston
COST: $30 Includes Participation Card and Folder
NOTE: This class will not provide any meals and is just for adults.
This course is designed as a short program emphasizing entry-level paddling skills and rescue techniques for individuals desiring an opportunity to take a Troop or group out on flat water. You will learn canoe and kayak strokes to effectively navigate on the water. Plus you will learn and practice rescue techniques that will help you to feel confident if an emergency situation arises.
